One aspect critical to the evolution of a species is its ability to learn. Today’s NZ Dompost reveals the lack of intellegence of one such member of the human species.
Blogger keeps up suppression pressure
A prominent blogger has identified a national figure charged with indecently assaulting a 13-year-old girl.
The person has court ordered name suppression but blogger Cameron Slater – already before the courts for four counts of breaching suppression orders and one count of publishing information which could lead to the victim of a crime being identified – has named them in a post today by using computer coding to mask the text.
Slater, who writes the Whale Oil blog, said it had not been difficult to learn the identity of the accused.
“I had someone ring up the court and they just gave up the information with no identification, no nothing,” he said.
If the computer coding in today’s post is converted, it reveals the name of a national figure charged with indecently assaulting a girl aged between 12 and 16.
The accused, who has interim name suppression, appeared in Nelson District Court last Thursday.
His bail conditions include living at an address away from his home town, avoiding contact with his partner and the alleged victim, and not possessing or obtaining firearms. Court documents show it is alleged the man touched the girl’s breasts and genitals on December 30.
Late last year, Slater was charged over other online blog posts which police argued could lead to the identification of an entertainer and a former Olympian who had both been granted name suppression.
In those cases, the blogger used cryptic images and an internet link to an online news article to reveal the accused.
When asked what he thought the police would do about his latest blog post, Slater said he would be waiting to see what happened.
“They’ve got better things to do don’t they?”
Slater said he had received a landslide of supportive emails since he was charged with four counts of breaching current suppression laws in December.
“I think that the public have had enough and I am just tapping into what the public want.”
Slater will next appear in Auckland District Court on January 19.

Apparently, his site was “removed” by his hosts for breaching the Terms and Conditions for his hosting. Apparently, it was a “Court Ordered Shut Down”!!!!
So much for his claim that the Courts couldn’t touch him because he was hosted in the USA.
Maybe how should have come to me for hosting, like others have done, but then, no, I wouldn’t want that because then someone would claim I was involved with him because I was hosting him….
Funny that…. its what he claimed about me when I was hosting a site accused of chucking bricks through MP’s windows.
Maybe the fat lazy depressed prick needs to grow a brain.
It’s for real. Officialdom are taking him down. Without the rule of law, imperfect though it may be, we have Anarchy. Survival of the fittest. Note your gallant captn said the fittest – not fattest!
Internet blogger Cameron Slater is being investigated for another deliberate breach of a suppression order, police say.
Slater is already on bail having entered no plea to five charges of breaching court suppression orders, identifying two prominent New Zealanders accused in separate sex offence cases.
Nelson Bays police area commander Detective Inspector John Winter today said Slater’s website was being investigated after he posted a coded message naming a person whose name had been suppressed by the courts.
Winter said such action in defiance of a court order was irresponsible and could lead to the identification of the victim the order was intended to protect.
Slater said the public was behind his campaign against suppression laws, which he believed were not working the way they were intended.
He said he might continue to name high profile defendants, although his website was not accessible on Monday evening.
The IT experts at this site have determined that it seems likely the police hacked the site and took it down!
Hope there is a back up!
